Technology is advancing rapidly, but some innovations begin not just with an idea, but with a powerful vision. The story of QR Menu systems used in restaurants in Turkey is also a product of this vision.
The foundations of digital menu technology, now used in thousands of businesses, were laid in 2013 by Ovarsa Software Technologies.
How Did the Idea Come About?
In the early 2010s, printed menus were still standard in restaurants. However, these menus were both costly and needed to be updated frequently.
Whenever a new product was added, prices changed, or stock ran out, all menus had to be reprinted.
The Ovarsa team noticed this situation and asked the question:
"Why shouldn't customers view the menu on their own phones?"
It was with this thought that the idea for Turkey's first QR Menu system was born.
At that time, QR codes were not yet widespread in Turkey, but Ovarsa's vision was very clear:
One day, everyone would be viewing their menu on their phone.
How Was Turkey's First QR Menu System Developed?
In 2013, Ovarsa Yazılım Teknolojileri San. Tic. Ltd. Şti. developed Turkey's first QR Menu system, opening the door to digital transformation for restaurants.
The system was quite simple: a QR code label was placed on restaurant tables, allowing customers to instantly access the menu by opening their cameras.
Without needing to download any app, product images, descriptions, and prices could be viewed instantly.
This innovation significantly changed both the user experience and business efficiency.
